We had such a sweet and inspiring day at Mill Ridge Village this past month! Our amazing CEO, Stuart Brown, stopped by to share one of his passions with us: beekeeping!
Stuart told the story of how his grandfather used to care for the family’s hives, and how he later took over the tradition himself. What started as a family hobby has grown into something truly special. The bees spend their spring and summer right here in the back lot at Mill Ridge Village, pollinating and making honey, and during the winter months, Stuart carefully transports them to his family acreage, where they stay cozy and safe until honey season begins again.
Did you know it takes about 300 bees to make just one ounce of honey? We didn’t either until Stuart’s presentation! Stuart taught us all about the different types of bees, their roles within the hive, their lifespans, and how much care and attention goes into keeping them healthy and happy.
We ended the afternoon with warm homemade biscuits from our amazing Dining Director, topped with fresh raw honey straight from Stuart’s own hives! It was the perfect blend of learning, laughter, and sweetness, leaving everyone buzzing with appreciation for our little pollinator friends.
A huge thank you to Stuart Brown for stopping by and teaching us all about the bees. We can’t wait for next year’s presentation!
