Our residents at El Dorado West were transported to the beautiful islands of the Philippines during our cultural week celebration! Residents and staff alike enjoyed an immersive experience filled with delicious food, traditional attire, and enlightening cultural activities. Our activities director collaborated with Filipino staff members to organize a traditional dress display featuring the elegant "Baro't Saya," the national costume of the Philippines. Staff members proudly modeled these beautiful garments.
The cultural immersion continued with an exciting field trip to a local Asian market, where residents explored the colorful aisles filled with authentic Filipino cooking ingredients. From calamansi limes and ube (purple yam) to banana leaves and fish sauce, residents enjoyed identifying the unique ingredients that make Filipino cuisine so distinctive.
The week continued with a culinary adventure as our talented chef prepared a mouthwatering chicken adobo meal with pancit. This Filipino national dish—featuring tender chicken marinated in a tangy blend of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and spices—was a huge hit among residents!
The week concluded with a creative craft session where residents designed their own versions of the Philippine flag, learning about the symbolism behind its vibrant colors and distinctive sun with eight rays representing the first provinces that fought for independence.
Through food, fashion, and fun activities, our Filipino cultural week brought our community together while expanding our horizons. We look forward to continuing our cultural celebration series!
