Grandview residents enjoyed a special treat from their dining director, Mike. This month our cultural celebration took a delicious trip to Portugal—no passport required!
The kitchen served up Peri-Peri Chicken, with just the right amount of Portuguese-inspired spice along side red rice and savory Linguica sausage. For dessert? Bolo De Bolacha, a classic Portuguese cookie cake made with layers of coffee-soaked biscuits and creamy goodness.
Next, they toured the land and cities on the big screen and awed at the beauty of the Atlantic coastline and world-class wine country.
Grandview’s marketing director, Joanne, prepared Minchee; a family recipe. Minchee is a centuries-old blend of Portuguese and Cantonese cooking, with common and basic ingredients. Residents sampled and commented on the sweetness, simplicity, and quick preparation.
Joanne shared a bit of culture, family traditions, and history, through photos, music, antique treasures, memoirs, and newspaper articles. This brought a lot of nostalgia and conversation as residents remembered what their own parents and families were doing in the 40’s as she shared the exciting immigration to the United States; the land of Milk and Honey.
Our cultural celebration of Portugal reminded us of our blessings and allowed residents a chance to get to know Joanne and her family.
