Nhi Doan moved to Village Concepts of Burien, El Dorado West last summer and learned how to crochet by following tutorials on YouTube. She started by selecting beginner-friendly videos that introduce the basics of crochet, such as how to hold the hook, how to make a foundation chain, and how to create simple stitches like single crochet and double crochet.
As she practices, she watches step-by-step guides to understand different techniques, from creating swatches to making small projects like scarves or dishcloths. Throughout the process, she encountered challenges but continues to practice, gaining more confidence with each tutorial. Over time, she refined her skills and began exploring more complex patterns and projects. The experience is a mix of frustration and accomplishment, but the online support and instructional videos help her stay motivated and improve.
She has mastered this craft and created over 200 ornaments and pieces to decorate the community for the holidays! She often gets requests from other residents, staff and future residents that come in for tours. Marketing Director Richards says, "She is a delight to this place and loves to share her latest pieces with the entire building."
