As part of our Cultural Celebration Series at Village Concepts of Milton, our Admin Assistant Michelle shared a presentation on her birth country, the Philippines. She filled the lobby with authentic items including bags, brooms, and fans made from dried palm leaves, traditional clothing, and a wooden Sungka game.

“I made the fireplace resemble one of our Bahay Kubo (hut),” she says.

Michelle highlighted key aspects of Filipino culture: festivals like Sinulog and Dinagyang, natural wonders like Mayon Volcano and the Chocolate Hills, and unique wildlife like the Tarsier (among the world’s smallest monkeys), the Lolong (the world’s largest saltwater crocodile), the Giant Golden-Crowned Flying Fox Megabat (actually a harmless fruit bat!), and the national bird-the groovy and shaggy, featherly-headed Monkey-Eating Eagle.

Everyone enjoyed Filipino mango ice cream and Ube Otap pastries. Thank you Michelle!
