At Village Concepts of Burien, it’s no secret that the dining team is top-notch—but now, the entire community knows it too! Dining Director Nigel recently took home the Best Soup Award at the annual Empty Bowls event in Burien. Here’s the fun twist: he didn’t even know they were participating! The day before the soup was due, a representative from Discover Burien arrived with a five-gallon bucket, ready to collect the entry. With no time to prepare, Nigel, the talented chef, got creative, using only ingredients available in the community kitchen. The result? A delicious Butternut Squash Soup that wowed the crowd and earned the team the top spot, along with a trophy that will be proudly displayed in the community for the next year!
This award is a true testament to the dedication and skill of the entire dining team, proving that even when caught off guard, they rise to the occasion—deliciously! A huge congratulations to Dining Services Director Nigel on this well-deserved recognition! The community is already looking forward to seeing what he cooks up next year (perhaps with a little more notice this time).
