Veterans Tom Johnson and Fred Breed, residents at Village Concepts of Chehalis, were recently awarded Quilts of Valor, alongside several other local veterans, in a Veteran's Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Chehalis. The ceremony also included an inspiring speech on mental health and PTSD by U.S. Army veteran David Konkler, who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Quilts of Valor is a nationwide nonprofit founded in 2003 by Catherine Roberts, whose son served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Her mission was to bring healing to veterans by gifting them handmade quilts. Since the program started, over 400,000 quilts have been presented to veterans across the U.S.
