Desktop7 Village Concepts staff and residents support relief efforts in Eastern Washington through the Village Concepts Cares program by company-wide fundraising
In light of the recent fires in eastern Washington, Village Concepts’ retirement and assisted living communities throughout Washington state joined together to show their support for the cause through their Village Concepts Cares program. Village Concepts raised a grand total of $14,432 through spaghetti dinner fundraisers, bakes sales, and raffles with proceeds going to The American Red Cross. The Village Concepts Cares program was created by Village Concepts to give staff and residents from each of their 15 Washington residences a platform to respond and lend their support in the wake of disasters or other tragic events.

Those seemed to be the main topics of the day as U.S. Rep. Dave Reichert spent about an hour or so Aug. 7 at the Spiritwood at Pine Lake assisted living facility on 228th Avenue Southeast, near the Issaquah and Sammamish borders. After a short tour of the facility, the GOP congressman met with seniors in the facility’s main dining room. A veteran of the Army Air Corps, resident Herb Kaiser said he arrived at Spiritwood following a major medical development at his former home in Arizona. He said finances are concerns for a lot of seniors, but especially veterans. “Whatever you can do for us, we would surely appreciate it,” Kaiser told Reichert. For his part, Reichert thanked Kaiser for his service. He had earlier told the gathered seniors that veterans’ problems were a hot topic in Washington D.C. right now. Reichert added he had brought in a veteran of the conflicts in the Middle East to aid those who called his offices looking for help with veterans’ rights or related problems. Spiritwood resident Kay Dickey spoke briefly about problems many seniors go through trying to obtain Medicaid or Medicare. Reichert mentioned possible changes and improvements to the programs. Reichert’s tour of Spiritwood came about because the congressman wished to learn more about assisted living and memory care, said Sherrie Reed, Spiritwood community relations director. In his talk to seniors, Reichert spoke about his work on the House Ways and Means Committee. He seemed proud to serve on one of the most influential committees in Congress and as chairman of a taxing subcommittee. According to Reichert, the subcommittee’s goal presently is corporate tax reform, though he didn’t go into any details. Following the coming presidential elections, Reichert vowed his committee would be ready to tackle personal tax reforms. The goal is, he claimed, to implement a tax code simple enough that more than 90 percent of the American public could do their federal taxes themselves, with no help from tax preparers or accountants. Channel Point Village together with nine other Village Concepts communities throughout Washington State, was nationally recognized by the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) as a 2015 recipient of the Bronze — Commitment to Quality Award for its dedication to improving the lives of residents through quality care.

“Channel Point Village has made a commitment to our residents and the community to provide the best care in Grays Harbor, said Jacquelin Earley, executive director of Channel Point Village, “To receive this award and recognition is an honor and we are grateful.” The Bronze award, followed by Silver and Gold, is the first in a series of three levels of the National Quality Award Program presented by AHCA/NCAL. The program recognizes senior communities across the nation that have continually demonstrated their commitment to improving quality care for seniors and individuals with disabilities. As Bronze recipients, Channel Point Village may now move forward and are eligible to receive the Silver — Achievement in Quality Award. “Village Concepts is proud of Channel Point Village for receiving significant recognition for their accomplishments,” said Stuart Brown, chief operating officer of Village Concepts. “Each day this community makes a positive impact on the lives of our residents. It’s an honor to receive this accomplishment our staff has worked tirelessly for.”
